Wu Zhi Qiao projects( www.bridge2china.org ) are corporate or student-led bridge building initiatives which aim to improve livelihood of the needy in remote areas of the Mainland China, inspire the preservation of local culture and ecological environment, and most importantly, facilitate the integration between Hong Kong and Mainland by building spiritual bridges.
Under the supervision of staff members of the Foundation and Chinese University of Hong Kong, corporate or student volunteer teams from Hong Kong and Mainland China will not only get a better understanding of the bridge site's local culture and environment, they will also be challenged to find resources locally and adhere to design principles (such as using architecturally sustainable materials) and the concept of environmental protection when they construct a solid bridge from scratch. They will also have the chance to work hand in hand with the local villagers to transfer relevant skills and knowledge, so that the locals can undertake maintenance work themselves in the future.
Since its inauguration in 2007, the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation has mobilized over 330 volunteers to complete more than 11 bridge projects, benefiting over 13,000 villagers.
Sharon Chow, CEO of the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation will share with you her previous bridge building journeys and future work plan during this luncheon event.
