The Harvard Book Prize, begun in 1910 to encourage talented students to apply to Harvard, is one of the highest awards a school can make to a student in the junior class. The 2008 Harvard Book Prize was Wolf Totem by Jiang Rong, winner of the inaugural Man Asian Literary Prize. The runners-up received Camel Bells in the Windy Desert by Andrew Tu. The winners were on hand to receive their awards at the Central Library, presented with talks by Harvard Professor Harry Lewis and Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower Chris Wardlaw.
