The potential of AI to revolutionize teaching and learning is widely recognized, but its actual impact and implementation remain uncertain. Questions about the extent of its influence, the timeline for transformation, and the challenges of integrating new technologies into education systems persist. Join the Harvard Club of Hong Kong and the Brown University Alumni Association of Hong Kong to explore these issues and discuss potential answers.
Speakers:
1. Renee Boey, Founder and Head of Bloom KKCA Academy
Renée Boey combined her passion for teaching and innovation to found Bloom KKCA Academy, a school of innovation emphasizing project-based learning and entrepreneurship. She will be launching Bloom’s secondary school this fall. Renée also established Baker & Bloom, a K-12 education center fostering creativity and academic excellence. Renée has a BA in Literature from Harvard, an MPhil in Renaissance Literature from Cambridge, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from HKU and an MFA in Writing. As a Certified Educator of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and an entrepreneurship advisor for CoCoon Foundation, Renée remains dedicated to cultivating creative students for a greener, more peaceful future.
2. Kim Kwok, Founder of Mighty Oaks International Kindergarten and Founder of Acorn Playhouse
Kim Kwok is the Founder of Mighty Oaks International Nursery and Kindergarten and Founder of Acorn Playhouse. She has received a number of awards including the JCI Ladies' Hong Kong Professional Elite Ladies Selection Award 2022 and the Golden Bauhinia Women Entrepreneur Award 2022. She is also a Committee member on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE). She graduated from Brown in 2009 with an AB in Early Childhood Education.
3. Dr Sean McMinn, Director of Center for Education Innovation, HKUST
Dr. Sean McMinn, the Director of Center for Education Innovation at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has over 20 years’ experience in higher education. He has interests in artificial intelligence and education, digital literacies, and networked learning and has published and presented at international conferences on these subjects.

Joon Nak Choi, Adjunct Associate Professor of Management, Advisor to the MSc in Business Analytics, and Faculty Associate at the Institute for Emerging Market Studies, HKUST
Joon Nak CHOI (JC) is Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Management; Advisor to the MSc in Business Analytics Program, Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management; and Faculty Associate, Institute for Emerging Market Studies at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He graduated from Brown from 2000 with an AB in International Relations, Urban Studies, and Economics and from Stanford with an MA and a PhD in Sociology. JC’s current work focuses on the intersection of business and technology, encompassing AI, data science, business analytics, management consulting, innovation, and business ethics; he is currently co-teaching HKUST's new undergraduate common core course on understanding and leveraging AI. JC has been involved with several startups, having co-founded Zectr, which applied machine learning to automate survey-driven market research and Learnovate, which is applying AI to education.
