About the event

Our Club's President, Edward Chan, will be hosting lunch at Shanghai Fraternity Association Restaurant in Central. It will be an informal lunch with special guests, Professor David A. Weitz (Harvard University) & Professor Anderson Shum (HKU). 

David A. Weitz is the Mallingkrodt Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University, where he has appointment in both the Physics Department and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He received his PhD in physics from Harvard, and then worked at Exxon Research and Engineering for nearly 18 years. He then was a professor of Physics at the University of Pennsylvania before joining to Harvard, where he leads the experimental soft condensed matter physics research group. His research efforts include soft matter physics, biophysics and biotechnology. He is a member of the National Academies of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Science.

Prof. Anderson Ho Cheung Shum received his B.S.E. degree, summa cum laude, in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University, S.M. and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and a Core member in the Biomedical Engineering Programme at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He is currently serving as Associate Vice President (Research and Innovation) at HKU. Previously, he served as an Associate Head (2020-2021) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and an Assistant Dean (2018-2020) in the Faculty of Engineering at HKU.
